Sorry the blog has been quiet for a few days. I went as the
cool chaperon on my sister's pre-nursing girls' cabin get-away vacation! Oh yeah! I actually had a blast with the 11 wonderful girls who went. They were all very sweet and unique from each other. Plus I got some quiet time in to read when they all went out. I made sure to not do anything technology related apart from checking email... harder than it sounds! Anyways... thank you for those who participated (and you still can!) in my first
Tutorial Tuesday Linky Party! The next one will be up on
Tuesday, June 4th.
So what did I do while there, you ask? Well, I thought I would sew... a lot. I did zero. I
did however, sew up this awesome
sewing kit the night I was
supposed to be packing. I came across the
tutorial, decided I'd make it before I packed, told myself I wouldn't make it pieced, and NO hand quilting. Before I knew it I was pulling out my Echino scrap pack, then my iron on adhesive, then embroidery thread.... I did everything I said I wouldn't, and then some. I have no regrets!!!

Flip open the cover, and find this cute little pocket. |
|
To the right of that pocket you see this. |
|
Flip open the right outside panel, and you see my personal favorite part of the kit... the middle!
It holds my little scissors perfectly! |
|
To the right of the middle is the other set of pockets, perfect for my Gutermann thread! |
|
A look of the whole outside made with linen, Echino scraps, fabric from Joann's, and embroidery floss. |

Close up of the Echino flower detail. It's ironed on, with hand done stitches to secure it. |

The inspiration for even adding the Echino fussy cut scraps, the okapi! |
My quick project ended up taking me a few hours, but the product was very much worth it! I will be making another one soon, and will feature the tutorial on my next Tutorial Tuesday. There are a few adjustments I made and ones I'd like to try before I share it with you.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! I encourage you to make whatever quick sewing project you've had your eye on, make simple promises to yourself about what not to do, then break all of them to end up with something you love!
P.S. I hate binding.

I love your sewing kit! The embroidery and applique touches make it so fun... the deer smelling the flowers :)
ReplyDeleteI am going to wait until you post your take on the tutorial before I try it!
Great gift project, too.

Very sweet - My favorite part is the little scissor keeper! I love that it's also an animal print. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a completely awesome sewing kit. Love all the pockets, and for thread too! I hear you on the "I hate binding". I used to hate it too. I hope you find a groove that works for you so you can at least feel neutral there! =)
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Love all the little details you added, too.
