Found a Gem!!

I went to my dad's house yesterday, and in passing a small pile of quilts my grandmother made, I spotted this wonderful unfinished quilt top! I had walked past all of these quilts several times and somehow never, ever saw this one. We got it out, unrolled it, and just gawked at it. I mean look at it!
It is a hexagon quilt top made into flower shapes with a border of color around each, then all outlined in white. Here's some close-ups of the blocks.

The material is possibly silk or some sort of thin polyester. I'm going to look into it much more so I can choose the right fabric to put on the back. Oh! Did I forget to mention I'm going to finish it!? I'm so excited to work on the same quilt my grandmother planned and made. Here's a few more! It's just so beautiful I can't resist showing you!

Well I hope you liked looking at my gem as much as I do! Make sure to check back on Tuesday for another great tutorial! Oh, and I will be updating a lot on that Sugar Pop quilt this week. I need it to be done by Saturday so posting about it every other night will help keep me motivated to sew, sew, sew, and get it finished in time.

    1. I can't wait either! lol I found a tutorial on finishing the hexies without having to slice through them. That way you can keep the funky hexie border. Plus I hate the idea of cutting off something she worked so hard to make. I don't think she paper pieced it. I'm pretty sure she cut out every hex individually then hand sewed them together. What patience!
